Walt Disney Animated Features
In Chronological Order

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

VHS
A "Platinum Edition" VHS. Walt Disney's classic 1937 film, restored and remastered.

Pinocchio

VHS - Out-of-print.
A VHS in the "Gold Collection" series. The 1940 Walt Disney film is presented uncut and restored.

Fantasia

VHS - Out-of-print.
Walt Disney's classic 1941 musical feature. WARNING: The VHS does not contain some of the narration and intermission, and the "Pastory Symphony" sequence is censored as it is on the DVD.

Dumbo

VHS
This 60th Anniversary VHS presents "Dumbo" (from 1941) uncut and restored.

Bambi

VHS
Walt Disney's classic 1942 film. (This movie is planned to be re-released on DVD in March 2005.)

Saludos Amigos

VHS
A VHS in the "Gold Collection" series. Walt Disney's shortest feature (with a length of just under 45 minutes) is a "package" film, first released February 6, 1943, and includes animated featurettes with Donald Duck and Goofy. WARNING: The version of this film on DVD and VHS is edited. The home video version currently available removes a few seconds of Goofy smoking a cigarette and blowing a smoke ring.

The Three Caballeros

VHS
A VHS in the "Gold Collection" series. This "package" feature from 1945 tells a story of Panchito and Jose Carioca taking Donald Duck on a tour of South America for his birthday. Inlcudes the featurettes "Pablo Penguin" and "The Flying Gauchito".

Make Mine Music

VHS
A VHS in the "Gold Collection" series. This package feature from 1946 is sometimes known as the "lesser sequel to Fantasia". There are nine musical featurettes presented in the film on this video (with one segment edited out). WARNING: The DVD and VHS version of this film edits out one of the ten segments in the original film, "The Martins and McCoys". The only plausible reason that this segment was edited out is that some hillbillies may find it offensive. We don't recommend this video unless you can get it at a heavily discounted price.

Fun and Fancy Free

VHS
Part of the "Gold Collection" VHS series. This 1947 package feature contains two segments: "Bongo" and "Mickey and the Beanstalk". The "Mickey and the Beanstalk" segment features narration with puppeteer Edgar Bergen, and the film is "hosted" by Jiminy Cricket.

Melody Time

VHS
A VHS in the "Gold Collection" series. "Melody Time" is another musical package feature, from 1948. Contains three bonus cartoons: "Lambert the Sheepish Lion", "Donald Applecore", and "Casey Bats Again". WARNING: The version of this movie on DVD and video is edited. The "Pecos Bill" segment has been altered to remove frames where a character is smoking a cigarrette.

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

VHS
A video in the "Gold Collection" series. Walt Disney's last package feature, and perhaps the best one since "The Reluctant Dragon", has two segments: "The Wind in the Willows" with J. Thaddeus Toad, and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow".

Cinderella

VHS
Walt's 1950 film.

Alice in Wonderland

VHS
A video in the "Gold Collection" series. Walt's classic 1951 film.

Peter Pan

VHS
This "Special Edition" VHS contains the 1953 film uncut and restored, with a bonus "The Making of 'Peter Pan'" featurette (also available on the "Special Edition" DVD).

Lady and the Tramp

VHS - Out-of-print.
A video in the "Masterpiece" series. Walt's classic 1953 feature film will be re-released on DVD in a few years, though the exact date is unconfirmed by Disney.

Sleeping Beauty

VHS
This (rather overpriced) "Special Edition" VHS only contains one of the bonus features from the DVD: a music video. The film is presented in full screen format.

101 Dalmations

VHS - Out-of-print.
A VHS in the "Masterpiece" series. Walt's 1961 film will be re-released on DVD in a few years, but no set date has been confirmed.

The Sword in the Stone

VHS
A VHS in the "Gold Collection" series. Released on Christmas day, 1963, "The Sword in the Stone" is one of Disney's less famous animated films, but still well worth a look. The video includes a bonus Goofy cartoon, "A Knight For A Day", a deleted song ("The Magic Key"), and the behind-the-scenes featurette "Music Magic: The Sherman Brothers".

Mary Poppins

VHS - Out-of-print.
A video in the "Gold Collection" series. Will be re-released on DVD (and probably VHS) in December 2004.

The Jungle Book

VHS - Out-of-print.
The last feature film Walt worked on (released in 1967). It will be re-released on DVD in a few years, but Disney has not confirmed a set date.

Disney Animated Shorts and Specials on VHS

Hand Behind the Mouse

VHS
"The Hand Behind the Mouse - The Ub Iwerks Story" is a documentary from 1999 telling the story of Ub Iwerks, who drew Mickey Mouse in "Steamboat Willie". In the 1930s, he had his own cartoon studio (making shorts with characters such as Willie Whopper and Flip the Frog). In the 1940s he came back to Disney and worked on films such as "The Three Caballeros".

Mickey and Minnie's Sweetheart Stories

VHS
Contains nine cartoons: "Society Dog Show", "In Dutch", "Donald's Double Trouble", "Pluto's Heart Throb", "Ye Olden Days", ""Donald's Dilemma", "Puppy Love", "Susie the Little Blue Coupe", and "Peculiar Penguins". (According to an Amazon.com reviewer the VHS contains five different cartoons than the DVD.)

The Spirit of Mickey

VHS
Contains the following cartoons: "Band Concert", "Thru the Mirror", "Lend a Paw", "Orphan's Picnic", "The Worm Turns", "Mickey's Surprise Party", "Mickey and the Seal", "Mickey's Trailer", "Canine Caddy", "Mr. Mouse Takes a Trip", and "Steamboat Willie". ("Steamboat Willie" is edited to remove a scene where Mickey plays with a pig's teats. The cartoon is uncut on the "Mickey Mouse in Black and White" DVD.)
